Greetings to one and all.
Firstly we must apologise for the disgraceful lack of posts in the past three weeks. We have been rather busy in Melbourne taking in the cricket and the tennis and having too much fun at the casino. No worries though, we ended up neither winning nor losing at the end of the day.
Having left Sydney in the New Year we arrived in Melbourne to baking hot weather....most days well into the 30's and some even up to 40. There was no relief at night either as temperatures stayed in the mid twenties. Melbourne was lovely with the Yarra winding its way through the city. The main drawback was the flies!!!!! They are everywhere, especially by the water. We understand now why the Aussies wear cork hats. It's clearly not a fashion statement.
Our time at the cricket (Australia v England at the MCG - 80,000 people) was brilliant despite England getting beaten....again! Great atmosphere and lots of fun. The tennis was also very exciting. We had Rod Laver Arena (centre court) tickets for the first 5 days of the Open and saw all the major contenders....Federer, Nadal, Roddick, Sharapova, Clijsters, Mauresmo, Williams....even our very own adopted Brit Murray. Saw lots of action on outside courts too but it was either way too hot or raining. Apparently one day the court temperature was almost 60 degrees. Unbelievable!!!!
Anyway, Melbourne is now behind us and we are on our travels once again. This time in a Britz van we have affectionately named 'Ivor'. Unfortunately he has a little leak all over the floor every now and again. We never know when to expect it but occasionally find ourselves standing in a wet patch. Warren's......we'll explain later. It's not quite as glam as Kev was eg. plastic plates now rather than china ones.....but Ivor is actually a bigger van.......as Fiona keeps saying however....size really isn't everything!!!!
We spent 2 days driving west towards Adelaide on the Great Ocean Road. Brethtaking views and lovely scenery and villages. We are now east of Melbourne travelling back towards Sydney. Should be there by the weekend. Currently staying in a small place called Lakes Entrance. Wonderful site....evn our own en suite bathroom. Tomorrow we head to a tiny town called Tathra....it's apparently very beautiful. Should be good. Then it's a stopoff in Canberra before we arrive back in New South Wales and busy Sydney.
Anyway, credit is running out and time is up so will leave it there for now.
We will add more pictures soon...we promise.
Oh, by the way, saw wild koalas yesterday...amazing.
Lots of love
Fiona and Phil
